Beach Festival Highlights

The Carlsbad Beach Fest is a free one-day family event open to public with its main goal to support and promote the stewardship and protection of our beaches, the marine environment, and coastal waterways.

Included in the festivities are face painting, magicians, raffle prices, educational booths, and hands-on activities.

The beach festival seeks local organizations and businesses who share the values of grass roots volunteer efforts, community involvement, and resource management.

SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES

  • Beach Run /Walk and Recreation Events: A first time ever 5K Low Tide Beach Run Blast, along with a 5K Low Tide Walk, and a Kids One Mile Fun Run, will kick off the day’s festivities.
  • Water Competitions: Paddle-board, surfing, and a rough water swim will test skill and endurance. (Registration will be available soon.)
  • Free Sporting Activities: Beach Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, beach volleyball, surf clinics, kayaking, and kite flying are some of the free events organized for families and individuals. AVP volleyball players provide excitement in a King & Queen of the Beach Tournament on the courts at Frazee Beach. A Zumba Fitness Party on the sand will be led by noteable instructors Eli Gonzlez from Chula Vista, California, and Rayito Arnold from Mesa, Arizona.
  • “Hands Across the Beach”: Ocean and beach conservation and preservation is the responsibility of every individual is the message behind this symbolic gesture. The public is encouraged to join Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall and city representatives and participate in this linking of hands across one mile of Carlsbad shoreline.
  • Beach Cleanup: A massive beach cleanup, organized and supported by California State Parks and San Diego Coastkeeper, will encompass three miles of beach, trailways, and surrounding streets, providing hundreds of people the opportunity to be of service to their community.
  • Art Seaside: U.S. Open Champions Archisand continues to be the event’s featured artisan group, returning each year to create another gigantic sand sculpture to reflect the day’s celebrated theme. Other artists, from painters to authors, will display and demonstrate their works in support of the day’s mission.
  • Beach & Ocean Stewardship: Interactive educational booths encourage and teach environmental stewardship. More than 20 organizations provide fun, hands-on activities and information for children and adults, allowing for a better understanding of the importance of taking care of our beaches and oceans.
  • Health & Safety Expo: Learn how to feel good and safe during recreation or exercising in the great outdoors. Professionals provide the latest tips on using the right gear, getting the most from your outdoor exercise, and staying safe while you’re in the water or on land. Lifeguard demonstrations provide dramatic water safety awareness.
  • Green Product Awareness: Businesses which have adopted principles, policies, and practices that improve the quality of life for their customers, their employees, communities, and the environment are invited to this year’s event. They will demonstrate how their products or services allow for economic development while conserving for future generations.
  • Live Entertainment: The surf will rock with performance stages erected on the sand, providing spectacular live entertainment all day; headlined by notable local artists, some shown below—respectively, Jerome Dawson & Wazabe Blue, Fula Bula,Varua Tahiti e’, The Professors, Naruwan Taiko, and Paddy’s Pig.
  • Food Court: A variety of food is provided on a cash basis to Beach Fest goers. Free bites to beach cleanup volunteers!
  • Opportunity Drawing & Prizes: All beach cleanup volunteers are entered into a free opportunity drawing as a thank you for their efforts in support of the event’s mission. Prizes will also be awarded to winners of drawing, event contests, and competitions.

Directions to Event and Parking:

Option A: From I-5 exit at Tamarack Ave., go west to Carlsbad Blvd. Tamarack State Beach will be in front of you. Park on Carlsbad Blvd. north and south of Tamarack or on neighboring streets. Warning! The is very limited pay parking at the Tamarack parking lot!

Option B: From I-5 exit at Carlsbad Village Dr., go west through town to Carlsbad Blvd. , go left on Carlsbad Blvd. to Pine Ave. Park on neighboring streets. Beach Fest begins on Frazee Beach at Pine Ave. and goes south to Tamarack. You may also go right on Carlsbad Blvd. to find more street parking, giving you a few blocks to walk south to Pine Ave.

Parking: Free parking is available in Carlsbad Village a short walk to Frazee Beach at Pine Ave.; Free parking is available on Carlsbad Blvd. and neighboring streets. There are pay lots at Tamarack State Beach and in Carlsbad Village.
