Art Festival Highlights
Art in the Pines is a 2-day celebration of nature through the interpretive eye of the artist. Held for the 3rd year at a time when the Reserve’s wildflowers are in full bloom, the outdoor venue is atop the mesa near the
Torrey Pines Visitor Center.
A shuttle will run from Torrey Pines State Reserve north and south parking lots. Day use fee of $10 or valid annual pass required for each vehicle entering the Reserve.
Plein Air Competition
A highlight will be a competition of recently painted plein air paintings representing the beauty of Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. During the two months leading to Art In The Pines, 35 plein air artists will visit the Reserve to paint. Their efforts culminate with a competition in which prizes are awarded for the best works. Judging takes place Saturday morning at 11 A.M., after which the pieces are available for sale. The Plein Air Gallery is located within the tent also housing the Open Air Gallery.
Artists from the entire San Diego County region will display and sell their nature-based art for the benefit of the educational programs at the reserve.
Enjoy the natural beauty of Torrey Pines while viewing and shopping for paintings, (oil, pastels, drawing, watercolor, acrylic), sculpture, ceramics and photography.
The event will open promptly at 10am both days. No visitors will be allowed to shop before 10am.
Artist Demonstrations
At various times throughout each day, artists will be demonstrating and sharing their skill and knowledge. Many demonstrations will be taking place at the artist's booth while others will be at beatiful sites such as the West Overlook, under the trees east of the Lodge, or just beyond overlooking the Penasquitos river valley. Please consult the schedule posted on the information towers for exact times and locations.
