The Little Italy carnevale will not take place in 2014, but may take place in 2015.
The Little Italy Association is proud to present the Little Italy Carnevale. Also known as Carnival or Mardi Gras, Carnevale is the final celebration before Ash Wednesday and the restrictions of Lent. The celebration mirrors Carnevale in Venice with various vignettes of entertainment and great Italian food!
This year the Little Italy Carnevale will be held in March (TBA) from 5:00pm to 9:00pm on India Street between W. Fir and W. Cedar Streets with the main stage on W. Date Street. Last year, Carnevale drew over 12,000 attendees with people dressed in traditional Venetian Carnevale regalia.
We encourage San Diegans to get into the spirit and wear a colorful mask, get dressed up with a traditional, yet simple cape. Attendee participation is a big part of this event!
Attendees should be sure to pick-up a Passport di Carnevale at the Little Italy Carnevale information booth on the corner of W. Date and India Streets, which will guide them through the festival and entertainment locations. The passport will direct attendees to participating shops and restaurants throughout Little Italy. At each destination, the participating business will stamp the passport. Then attendees can enter their completed passports for a chance to win an authentic Venetian mask.
