- Girl Scout Day (Sunday, Feb 10th)
From a brilliant tango, to a Bollywood extravaganza, Nations will showcase more than 15 dance traditions with over 200 dancers and musicians. You will again have the opportunity to travel the world in the comfort of our state-of-the art theatre during the festival weekend. Also, don't forgot that we will offer a performance specifically for students from around the county on Friday morning, February 8.
The Nations Festival has many unscripted moments. It is not uncommon for some dancers from different traditions to improvise with each other to the same music. For example, how would Chinese, Spanish and Hawaiian dancers move to the same rhythm? And, later the joy and spontaneity continues during intermission and at the end of every performance when all of the dancers and musicians break out in dance.
In 1993, the year Nations begin, the mission was to seek out the rich cultural heritage of dance in our region and elevate these traditional art forms on a stage for a wide audience to enjoy. Nineteen years later that mission remains the same.
