Torrey Pines

Torrey Pines is not really a community but a mainly undeveloped coastal area in San Diego, between Del Mar and La Jolla. (Map)

Torrey Pines is named after the rare Torrey Pine tree, which grows only in this area and on Santa Rosa Island.

Torrey Pines State Beach
A 4 1/2 mile stretch of sandy shoreline from Del Mar to Torrey Pines Mesa.

RESERVES / NATURE CENTERS

Torrey Pines State Reserve
A state reserve set on tall ocean cliffs. Includes hiking trails and nature center. Named after the rare Torrey Pines tree.

Torrey Pines Lodge
A historic lodge built in the 1920s that serves as the reserves nature center.

Los Peñasquitos Marsh
A lagoon below Torrey Pines State Reserve. There are no hiking trails or public access.

RECREATION

Torrey Pines GliderPort
Located on tall ocean cliffs overlooking Blacks Beach. Home to hang gliding, sailplane flights and paragliding. Includes a flight school.
