The San Diego County Coastline is made up of several towns and communities, each with its own character, history and size. Over the years, most towns have undergone growth and new development.

Cardiff-by-the Sea
Quaint small Cardiff Town Center, sandy state beaches and campground, San Elijo Lagoon and restaurant row.

Carlsbad
Seven miles of quality beaches, a beach campground, a beach boardwalk, flower fields, rolling hills, quaint Carlsbad Village shopping district, LEGOLAND.

Coronado
Del Coronado Resort, wide sandy beaches, Ferry’s Landing, Tidelands Park, Orange Ave Shopping District, two playhouses.

Del Mar
Historic downtown district, 2 miles of sandy beaches, Powerhouse Center Park, a lagoon, the Del Mar Fairgrounds and Racetrack, San Diego County Fair.

Encinitas
Miles of great surfing and swimming beaches,
a beach campground, a lagoon, historic downtown district, La Paloma Theatre.

Imperial Beach
On Mexican border. A pier, sandy beaches, Tijuana Estuary and Border Field State Park, U. S. Open Sandcastle Competition, and more.

La Jolla
An affluent coastal community. Prospect St. shopping district, La Jolla Cove, Childrens Pool, Scripps Institute of Oceanography and Scripps Pier, Birch Aquarium, UCSD, and Contemporary Art Museum.

Leucadia
Stroll along Oceanside Harbor’s boardwalk, dine at an outdoor cafe, go on a fishing charter.

Mission Beach
An oceanfront boardwalk, sandy beaches, Belmont Park, funky beachside neighborhoods, The Wave House, many restaurants, clubs, hotels and shops.

Ocean Beach
Funky, laid-back beach community. A pier, a dog beach, Newport Avenue Shopping District, Antique District.

Oceanside
3 1/2 miles of sandy beaches, a pier, harbor, lagoon, revitalized downtown, California Surf Museum, Mission San Luis Rey, Oceanside Harbor Days, and more.

Pacific Beach
A pier, an oceanfront boardwalk, sandy beaches, many restaurants, clubs, hotels and shops. The town is a haven for young people, especially college students.

Point Loma
A secluded community, located on a peninsula with the same name; Sunset Cliffs, Cabrillo National Monument, Old Point Loma Lighthouse, tidepools.

Solana Beach
Small beach town with sandy beaches, Fletchers Cove Park, Cedros Design District, Commuter Rail Amtrak Station.

Silver Strand
Long strip of land between Coronado and Imperial Beach; long, sandy state beach, campground.

Torrey Pines
Torrey Pines State Reserve, the Los Peñasquitos Lagoon, and several miles of secluded, sandy beaches.
