National City is located south of downtown San Diego and North of Chula Vista. The three-mile port is occupied by the U.S. Navy. National City has plans with the Port of San Diego to revitalize part of the bayfront.
Compared to other coastal and bayside communities, there’s not a whole lot to see in here. However, there are some attractions worth seeing.
Pepper Shoreline Park and Pier
5-½ acre grassy park with public fishing pier, boat launch ramp, shade trees, and picnic tables.
Old National City Santa Fe Depot
Original transcontinental railroad terminus built in 1882. Includes huge model RR track and towns on display, and old railroad street cars.
National City Railcar Plaza
Original 1887 “Motor Cannon Ball” excursion train on display.
Westfield Plaza Bonita
An indoor regional shopping center.
National City Hotels
Several economy hotels near I-5.
