East Mission Bay

East Mission Bay is bordered by I-5, so there isn't really much happening outside of Mission Bay Park itself, unless you cross the freeway. (map)

This side of the bay includes De Anza Cove, Information Cove, Playa, and Tecolate Shores Park. Directly west of East Mission Bay is Fiesta Island.

East Mission Bay has long expanses of grassy areas, several gazebos, a kite flying area, a playground, a boat launch ramp, an area for swimming, and the San Diego Visitors Center. Also located here is The Hitlon San Diego Hotel Resort, with its water sports rental place, as well as a pathway which hugs the bay and stretches from De Anza Cove to South Shores.

Other than the resort hotel, there is nothing else in the way of retail, unless you cross the I-5. And, although East Mission Bay can get crowded at times, it is large enough where it can seem secluded in places.
