The North Park Theatre is a performing arts and cinema venue in the North Park community of San Diego. Originally built in 1928, the building was restored to its original grandeur. The theatre received the “Orchid” award for its architectual achievement.
The theatre has 730 seats and includes a full-size movable orchestra pit, a fly-loft for legitimate live theater productions, a projection room for motion picture exhibition, and a state-of-the-art sound system.
Lyric Opera San Diego owns The North Park, where they put on their own performances. In addition, many other art productions and film exhibitions are put on by professional performing arts organizations, schools various non-profit groups, and other users.
In addition, each year, Lyric Opera puts on the Academy— four weeks of intensive training, 30 hours a week, for middle and high school students, who aspire to pursue careers in opera and musical theatre.
