Solana Beach Historic Downtown
Solana Beach historic downtown stretches along Old Hwy 101 from Via De La Valle to Ocean Street in Solana Beach, CA. As with Leucadia, the downtown district has no buildings on the east side of the hwy, because of the railroad tracks, and thus giving an open feeling. Unlike Leucadia, the railroad tracks are in a carved out trench below ground level, and not visible to the passerby.
Much of the Solana Beach historic downtown district's southern section has been rebuilt in the last few decades. Once a bit tacky and haphazard, this section of town includes several shopping plaza, with restaurants, workout gyms, offices, boutique stores and much more.
The center of town, around Lomas Santa Fe Dr. and Old Hwy 101 is the city's historical area, with local businesses and offices filling up older buildings. This part of town is a block away from Fletcher Cove Park and Beach, the city's main beach. Fiesta Del Sol, the annual art fair takes place in this area. Also in the center of town is Cedros Design District and the Solana Beach Commuter Rail-Amtrak Train Station.
The north section of the Solana Beach historic downtown district includes The Boardwalk, a row of specialty stores and dining. Pizza Port is a favorite local hangout.
On the east side of Old Hwy 101 is The Solana Beach Coastal Trail, a walk/roller blade/bike path, that extends along the entire length of town.
