Location: South Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas, CA (map)

Historic Hwy 101

Old downtown Encinitas runs along South Coast Hwy 101, the town's main street, from K Street to Encinitas Blvd. Much of the southern section of Coast Hwy 101 has been redeveloped over the last few decades, while the northern section retains its historical buildings, dating back to the early 20th century. A major downtown landmark is The La Paloma Theatre, a single-screen movie house in the heart of downtown, dating back to the '20s.

Downtown Shops and Restaurants

Encinitas old downtown district features several sidewalk cafes, restaurants, boutique, clothing, and specialty shops. The downtown area is laidback, trendy, and a bit offbeat.

As in a traditional American small town, parking is diagonal, along both sides of the street.

Historic downtown Encinitas features the annual Encinitas Street Faire and Taste of MainStreet International Food Festival, among other events.

Moonlight State Beach is four blocks from the north end of downtown Encinitas. Swami's Beach is on the south end of downtown.
