Point Loma, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The campus has a peaceful, retreat-like atmosphere, secluded from residential and commercial areas.
Founded in 1902, the university moved from its original location in Pasadena, CA to its Point Loma in 1973.
Point Loma Nazarene University has a history of its own. By 1900, the campus was dominated by the imposing Academy Building and the adjoining Temple of Peace.
Constructed in the Theosophical vernacular, both buildings were topped by amethyst domes, which were lighted at night and could be seen offshore
Greek amphitheater
In addition, the first Greek amphitheater in North America was built on this site of Point Loma Nazarene University in1901. It was used for sporting events and theatrical performances. The theatre was the site of a number of productions of Greek and Shakespearean dramas.
