Located in downtown Solana, the Solana Beach Commuter Rail-Amtrak Station is a large railway station that serves the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner passenger train and the North County Transit District's COASTER commuter rail.
In recent years, the Solana Beach Commuter Station underwent a major renovation, with a new terminal, parking lot, and below-ground level rail. A bridge crosses the tracks between the terminal and Hwy 101. Several years ago, Solana Beach Lumber Yard stood where the train station is today.
The Solana Beach Commuter Station renovation has been part of a larger renovation of the Solana Beach Hwy 101 business district and Cedros Ave in recent decades.
Solana Beach Commuter Station is located between the Oceanside and Old Town Amtrak stations and between the Encinitas and Sorrento Valley Coaster stations.
The Pacific Surfliner is the second most travelled railway in the United States, with only the Northeast Corridor having higher ridership figures. Solana Beach was Amtrak's twenty-fourth busiest station in 2005, with 400,027 passengers annually using the station.
