The state's Coastal Commission has approved the permits necessary to begin work on the new San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center. The new San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center will be located at the spot of the old center, just north of the San Elijo Lagoon, off of Manchester Ave.
The $4.75 million San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center project has been a long-awaited dream for the public's use and enjoyment. An opening date is expected about December 2008.
The new, 4-230-square-foot, two-story San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center promotes the latest in green construction, in which natural and recycled materials are used to reduce energy consumption and the impact to the environment. The new nature center offers expanded space for hands-on displays and interactive exhibits that clearly explain the lagoon's history and its importance to the natural environment. The nature center will be a learning session for the region's children.
