San Elijo Lagoon
One of few remaining coastal wetlands and home to an exceptional number of animals and plants. It lies along the coast in Cardiff, CA, between Solana Beach and Encinitas, and extending inland to Rancho Santa Fe.
The San Elijo Lagoon is part of San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve, a county and state regional park of nearly 1,000 acres of diverse habitat including six plant communties: coastal strand, salt marsh, brackish/freshwater marsh, riparian scrub, coastal sage scrub and mixed chaparral.
San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center
Under construction: The new, 4-230-square-foot, two-story center will offer expanded space for hands-on displays and interactive exhibits. The nature center will promote the latest in green construction, in which natural and recycled materials are used to reduce energy consumption and the impact to the environment.
