Agua Hedionda Lagoon
The Agua Hedionda Lagoon is located in Carlsbad north of Cannon Rd, and east of Carlsbad Blvd. The ocean inlet for the lagoon is at the jetties south of Carlsbad State Beach. The Agua Hedionda Lagoon is unique among San Diego County lagoons, in that recreational and commercial uses are permitted. Carlsbad Watersports and Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA Aquatic Park are the two main watersports centers on the lagoon. And yet the lagoon is a healthy, tidal body, with a large wetlands supporting several endangered species.
Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center
Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center is located next to the Agua Hedionda Lagoon and surrounding wetlands.
The 3,800 sq.ft. Discovery Center’s mission is to promote the environmental protection of the lagoon and to provide on-site educational and outreach programs to the local community and the public at large.
Trails along the south side of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon start out at the Discovery Center.
