CAMPGROUND HIGHLIGHTS
San Onofre State Beach Campground has two camping areas along the coast—San Onfre Bluffs and San Mateo.
The San Onofre Bluffs Section
The bluffs section has campsites along old Hwy 101, near the coast.The campground doesn't have much in the way of trees, but has plenty of hiking trails, as well as greenery and schrubs, with flowers blooming during spring and summer.
The campground is located along on cliffs overlooking San Onofre's beautiful, prestine beaches below.
San Onofre State Beach is a popular surfing spot. Several scenic hiking trails make their ways down to this beach, which can also be reached easily by car.
The San Mateo Section
The San Mateo section of San Onofre State Beach Campground is inland, about a one and a half mile walk to Trestles Beach, a world class surfing site. San Mateo Creek flows just east of the campground outward towards the ocean creating key riparian and wetland habitats which host some rare and even endangered species. All campsites include a fire pit and picnic table. Hookup sites are available with electricity and water. Other camping amenities include a dump-station, hot indoor showers, and flush toilets.

Campground Regulations
San Onofre bluff sites are now on rservations as site specific sites.
Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle or trailer, additional vehicles will be charged per night at the park.
- San Mateo Campground: Reservations YEAR ROUND.
- San Mateo Campground is site specific for reservations, site is selected when making your reservation.
- Bluff Sites reservetions 5/15 -10/01 Silver Strand SB is now on the reservation system. If campsites are not available at San Onofre for the dates of your stay please check Silver Stand's web page for available campsites; Click: HERE
- At the San Mateo Campground the Hook Up sites have electricity and water only, NO Sewer.
Bluff Sites:
- Closed to ALL camping when not on reservations.
- There are NO Hook up sites on the Bluffs.
- Reservations 05/15 through 10/01.
- To book a Group site you must have at least NINE occupants.
