Harbor Highlights

Located on San Diego Bay, America’s Cup Harbor is named for the famous race and offers breathtaking views of Shelter Island, Coronado and Point Loma.

The harbor is known for its large sportsfishing landings, marinas, waterfront promenade and boat yards, as well as shops and restaurants.

America's Cup Harbor

The harbor begins at Shelter Cove Marina, which faces into the harbor basin from the northeast corner of Shelter Island. Moving northwest along Shelter Island Drive toward the basin are several boat yards. Beyond the boatyards is the basin and main part of the harbor. This part of the harbor consists of a waterfront promenade or boardwalk, which connects several landings, marinas, restaurants and shops.

Shelter Cove Marina is strategically located between San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean, and is the first port in America’s Cup Harbor. It can dock a wide variety of ships and includes many amenities including water, electricity, satellite, and plenty of parking.

Even though the cove is cut off from the main promenade by several boat yards, there are still a few restaurants and other points of interest within walking distance.

Bali Hai has been a part of San Diego culture for over 50 years and was the first tiki-themed restaurant on Shelter Island. Major renovations to the restaurant’s look and menu provide even more quality without forsaking the traditional tiki spirit.

The restaurant provides premium, Hawaiian-themed food entrees, a relaxing bar and lounge area and beautiful views of Coronado and the San Diego skyline. Perfect for a romantic date.

Bali Hai serves brunch, lunch and dinner and also hosts weddings and banquets.

Boatyards

Shelter Island contains several boatyards on the south side of the harbor, including Koehler Kraft, Shelter Island Yachtways, and Nelson Beaumont Marine.

These sports fishing fleets of are considered by some to be the world’s largest and most modern. They provide a wide variety of charter trips, including half day boat rides to Coronado, two week tuna fishing voyages to Baja and just about everything in between.

Fishermen (and fisherwomen) can expect first-class accommodations, and knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Point Loma Seafoods has been a mainstay of Point Loma since the 1960s. Only the freshest and highest quality sea food is served, and the establishment has become known for its homemade chowders, shrimp and crabmeat.

The menu includes seafood plates, sandwiches, seafood cocktails, chowder and sushi. Prices are low. The restaurant is currently undergoing some building renovations.

Mitch’s Seafood, provides well-priced seafood and amazing views of the water. The restaurant is located right on the wharf in the same building as Point Loma Sportsfishing. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, but outdoor is recommended for the great views and oceanic landscape. 

Sun Harbor Marina

Sun Harbor is one of the oldest marinas in San Diego and is strategically located close to San Diego International Airport, Point Loma and Downtown San Diego. The harbor docks hundreds of boats, ranging in size.

The dock was completely renovated in 2005 and became the world’s first LEED-certified marina.

Pizza Nova is a locally owned and operated and specializes in gourmet pizzas that are hand stretched and baked on a wood-burning oven. The menu also includes large salads, pasta dishes, specialty cocktails, wine and beer.

The gourmet menu is enhanced by the beautiful views offered on the roof deck or outside by a beautiful fountain overlooking the marina and harbor.

Point Loma Marina is San Diego’s newest marina located in America’s Cup Harbor. The marina is ideally situated three miles from the open ocean and minutes from San Diego Bay. The Point Loma Promenade starts right at the edge of the marina, offering visitors access to an eclectic mix of waterfront dining and shopping opportunities.

The Promenade has won several prestigious architectural awards, and the marina is host to 50 of San Diego’s largest boating slips.

Jimmy's famous American Tavern:

Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern (JFAT) features an un-fussy menu of quality American classics including soups, salads, burgers and, of course, lots of beer choices. Wine and specialty drinks are also offered.

The restaurant contains several different areas including a lounge with garage-style doors, a central bar, booths and a beautiful outdoor patio which includes a fire pit. The restaurant holds different events throughout the year, including JFAT Tuesdays, which features simmering New Orleans eats.

A fun place to hang, eat good food and drink craft brews.

Driscoll's Wharf

Driscoll’s Wharf is located at the end of America’s Cup Harbor beyond Point Loma Marina. The harbor is scheduled for redevelopment, which includes plans to build a 10,000 square-foot building, a public promenade along the water’s edge, a 16,000 square foot public park and additional spaces. Currently, however, the wharf mostly takes on private commercial fishing boats.
