SeaWorld is an exciting marine theme park filled with fun rides, amazing animal shows and the chance to meet all kinds of sea creatures up close. The park offers an entire day of adventure that will appeal to all ages.

San Diego is the site of the very first SeaWorld theme park, which was opened in 1964. The park has grown by leaps and bounds since then and now includes a handful of popular rides as well as a wide variety of animals, including penguins, walrus, seals, dolphins, Beluga whales, sea turtles and, of course, killer whales.

SeaWorld San Diego Rides

SeaWorld San Diego offers visitors exciting rides that integrate the nautical theme of the park. Some rides even incorporate the many different marine environments carefully constructed throughout the park.

Bayside Skyride
The Bayside Skyride is one of the original rides of the SeaWorld San Diego park. Riders enjoy a six minute gondola tour over Mission Bay.

Journey to Atlantis
This hybrid flume/roller coaster ride also includes special affects as riders travel through the story of Atlantis. The ride begins with a long drop and ends with a view of Commersion’s dolphins. Prepare to get wet.

SeaWorld Sky Tower
Take in the beautiful views of San Diego as you slowly climb up the 320-foot SeaWorld Sky Tower in a rotating capsule. The journey to the top lasts six minutes.

Shipwreck Rapids
Riders sit in a circular raft and float through twists, turns and rapids. The ride takes passengers through a live turtle exhibit and plunges them beneath a waterfall. All passengers will get wet.

Wild Artic
This simulator ride takes passengers on a helicopter journey through the Arctic Circle. The large screen and movements of the ride make visitors feel that they are truly soaring over the icy landscapes. The Wild Artic serves as the entrance to SeaWorld San Diego’s arctic exhibits.

Riptide Rescue
This ride recreates a sea turtle rescue mission. Passengers sit in “rafts” that spin and soar.

SeaWorld San Diego Shows

SeaWorld is best known for its amazing animal shows, featuring dolphins, seals and killer whales. Audiences love the different tricks the animals perform as well as all the information provided by the trainers. Viewers in the front seat may even get a little wet!

One Ocean
SeaWorld’s premiere show, One Ocean is the newest killer whale exhibition, which includes music, fountains and plenty of Shamu tricks. Shamu will leap, flip and splash. Audience members in the lower seats should be prepared to get very wet.

The Shamu Story
Shamu was the very first killer whale ever brought to SeaWorld. The term “Shamu” is now used for all performance killer whales (though each whale has its own unique name as well). This show takes audience members behind the scenes into a Shamu training session and provides an abundance of information about killer whales.

Blue Horizons
Blue Horizons features dolphins, birds and pilot whales as sky meets sea in this entraining show. The SeaWorld dolphins demonstrate specular tricks, including flips, twists and dives along with their other animal performers. Costumes and energetic music make Blue Horizons a particular crowd pleaser.

Sea Lions Live
This funny performance show features sea lions Clyde and Seamore who entertain audiences with funny TV spoofs, including “Sea Lion S.I.” and “Sea Lion Idol”.

Cirque de la Mer
Based off the popular Cirque de la Sol performance show, Cirque de la Mer at SeaWorld features brilliant costumes, choreographed performances, amazing acrobatics and a touch of humor as performers show off a wide variety of talents on the water.

Shamu Rocks
This killer whale show includes lights, rock music and lots of cool tricks from SeaWorld’s trained killer whales.

Into the Blue
SeaWorld San Diego lights up the night sky with Into the Blue, their famous fireworks show. Orchestral music sets the mood as visitors watch fireworks explode color across the vast expanse of night sky.

Exhibitions

Turtle Reef
Turtle Reef provides SeaWorld visitors with an up close and personal view of majestic sea turtles as they swim through a recreated reef environment. Visitors learn different turtle facts, including information about turtle rescues.

Shark Encounter
This amazing tunnel lets visitors almost feel like they are swimming with the sharks while they remain entirely dry. The tunnel is constructed out of clear material, allowing visitors to watch sharks swimming all around them in a huge tank.

Rocky Point Preserve
Sea otters and bottlenose dolphins play together in this open air tank. The dolphins are very friendly and often come right up to guests who can reach out and touch them. Guests can also purchase fish to feed to the dolphins, allowing for an even closer experience.

Penguin Encounter
The Penguin Encounter exhibit features over 300 penguins, including regal emperor penguins, Adelie penguins, gentoo penguins and macaroni penguins. The exhibit allows visitors to see the penguins above ground and below as they glide effortlessly through the water.

Aquarium de la Mer
This large aquarium is filled with all kinds of colorful sea creatures. Children and adults alike will enjoy the bright colors, and different sizes and shapes of the fish and other creatures.

California Tide Pool
This recreation of a California tide pool includes sea stars, sea urchins, crabs and more. Visitors can reach in and touch the different creatures for a truly interactive experience.

Freshwater Aquarium
The freshwater aquarium at SeaWorld San Diego includes many different types of freshwater creatures from all over the world.

Pacific Point
Pacific Point features sea lions and seals in a dual above-ground, below-ground exhibit where visitors can watch the friendly creatures sunbathe on the rocks or zoom about under the water. Visitors may even be able to purchase fish and feed them directly to the animals.

Shamu: Up Close
This million gallon tank is home to SeaWorld San Diego’s seven killer whales: Corky, Kasatka, Ulises, Orkid, Nakai, Ikaika, and Kalia. Visitors can watch these huge and beautiful creatures swim by, almost close enough to touch.

Wild Artic
The Wild Artic includes multiples exhibits featuring polar bears, walruses and beluga whales. Visitors can make their way across a 25-long ice wall and go through a polar bear den.

Sesame Street’s Bay of Play
The Sesame Street’s Bay of Play is an area catering to small children. Sesame Street characters can be found for hugs and autographs, and there are several rides that small children will enjoy, including “Abby’s Seastar Spin”, “Elmo’s Flying Fish”, and “Oscar’s Rockin’ Eel”
